We at General Galactic Corporation are excited to bring you our latest experiment: Fancy.art, a simple and easy way to display NFTs on any TV, computer, or display.
One of the challenges with NFTs is that there isn’t a good way to display NFTs or to share them in your physical space. Presenting digital art has had a long history, from iconic screensavers of yore (flying toasters!) to dedicated hardware experiences like Electric Objects. But NFTs can often feel trapped in a wallet or limited to your computer’s browser—and that’s the problem we worked on.
It led to the creation of Fancy.art, which brings your own NFT collection to any display with your AppleTV (Chromecast and others are also coming soon). On top of that, you can curate multiple galleries of NFTs from any Ethereum address you like.
We know how much time, care, attention, and money go into NFT collecting. When we installed and tested our very first build and saw our collections (and our friends’ collections) in 4K in our living rooms, it was awesome—it gave us a rush of excitement and opened up a new appreciation for many of the NFTs we had only ever seen at a small scale.
How to get Fancy
Okay, so how do you get started? Fancy is currently only available through TestFlight, so:
- Install TestFlight on an iOS or iPadOS device and your Apple TV where you can sign in to the same App Store account.
- Click on this invite link to the Fancy.art TestFlight on your iOS or iPadOS device.
- Tap Accept
- Open TestFlight on Apple TV. You must be signed in to the same App Store account you used on your device.
- Install Fancy
After a super easy sign-in with Ethereum process, you can browse all your curated galleries from your couch.
Hit ‘play’ and Fancy.art will loop through all the NFTs.
What is an NFT?
If you’re asking yourself: what’s an “NFT”? Thanks for asking! NFT stands for “non-fungible token”, which is a fancy way of saying a digital asset whose ownership is kept track of on a globally distributed ledger, such as the Ethereum blockchain.
While JPEGs and MP4s and GIFs are tossed around the internet like a free-wheeling wild west, an NFT allows you to have ownership over an asset, which lets the market set its value.
You can check out our write ups of the Floppy Disk NFTs (The Drop & The Codez) to learn more. As you collect NFTs through the minting process or by purchasing existing assets on an online marketplace, you build up a digital library and inevitably, you will want to look at them and show them off!
Fancy.art lets you do that. By connecting your wallet to our Fancy.art website, we give you a way to curate your own galleries with NFTs you own and other NFTs you enjoy.
Let us know what you think
We want to hear what you think. Come find us in our Discord and let us know! Feedback is a gift.
We learned a LOT about web3 auth and creating one UI across multiple app experiences during the development of Fancy.art and will have some more in depth breakdowns to share soon.
Until then, sit back, and enjoy! WAGMI 🎉
